NORTH HARRIS COUNTY REGIONAL WATER BOARD
VOTES TO REDUCE WATER RATES FURTHER

At its September 16, 2024, Board Meeting, the Board of Directors of the North Harris County Regional Water Authority (NHCRWA) voted 3-2 to reduce wholesale water rates charged to customers by a historic $1.00 per thousand gallons for both treated Lake Houston water and water pumped from aquifers by MUDs (i.e., well water). These rate cuts, complementing the first two cuts of $0.50 each in 2023, will go into effect October 1st. All three combined total to $2.00 per thousand gallons—more than 40% rate reduction since the three new board members were elected in 2022. The two remaining members from the prior board voted against this cut and against the second one.

These fees generally show up on MUD district water bills as simply “NHCRWA”,  “NHCRWA fees”, or something similar.

Director Mark Ramsey, a long time resident of Northampton, Klein High graduate, and an advocate for lower rates who has an opponent in his re-election bid said after the rate cut, “I am grateful for the hard work of the board and the staff in identifying ways to reduce water rates. We continue to provide abundant high-quality surface water complementing the even more abundant high-quality groundwater beneath our feet. I and the other new board members continue to work toward other long-term solutions for North Harris County residents and businesses.”

Mark’s opponent is the same person who was previously on the board for 23 years and raised water rates a whopping 2000% over that time. Voters elected Mark Ramsey and threw his opponent out of office in a 75% to 25% landslide in 2022.  Now the opponent wants his seat back, presumably to increase rates again. The prior board had NEVER decreased water rates in the history of the NHCRWA.

Mark Ramsey also received the unanimous endorsement of the Harris County Republican Party. Other very notable endorsements, both by local and statewide leaders, may be found on his website, RamseyforTexas.com.
